Case closed 1  

Cook out day! It almost didn’t happen with the cold this week; Labor Day weather is strange; it is either 100 or 50.  We will have a fire later tonight when it gets dark, dad said.  Which is awesome. Perfect way to end the night, unfortunately it means school back up tomorrow, so it won't be a late night like the summer. 

 “What did you want to do” Phil asks, as he and Amber walk through our gate to the backyard.  

Having my best friends as my neighbors is the best; their parents are probably going to come by later. They usually stop by for a bit.  

“Want to play soccer for a while? Most people are in the pool; we talked about having a baseball game later with everyone before it gets to dark”  

We start getting out the goal my dad built for us to practice when we play in the yard.  

“Try not to get too close to the house with that ball” mom tells us as she passes us with snacks for the table.  

We move down a bit closer to the fence  

Just as Amber kicks the ball close to the house.  

 Boom, Crash, Shatter.  

“What the hall was that!” Phil “I didn't hit anything did I?”- amber 

“No, I think it was from the house” I answered as I ran to the side door. My mom is hearing impaired she might not have heard the noise if the door is closed in the other room. Her dog pepper will alert her to where the sound came from.  

We run inside at the same time as everyone here gets to the house from around the house. Grampa and Nana from the backyard like us. Dad from the side where he was starting the lawnmower.   All to see what happened.  

The window is shattered; the mug is broken into pieces.  

Everyone just stares at the broken pieces as they shine in the sun.
